A Brief Overview
The Vice President of Procurement and Contracting is responsible for shaping the strategic vision and operational execution of enterprise-wide procurement and contracting functions. This role drives cost optimization, supply chain resilience, and compliance while ensuring all goods, services, and clinical partnerships support patient care and organizational objectives. The VP oversees all contracting process functions while fostering cross-functional collaboration with clinical and operational teams. This leader develops high-performing teams to deliver measurable outcomes in efficiency, quality, and cost savings.
What you will do
Leads all contracting processes-including clinical and non-clinical agreements ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and Avera standards in collaboration with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams.
Foster cross-functional collaboration with clinical, legal, compliance, risk, finance, and operational leaders to support integrated decision-making.
Drive standardization and utilization initiatives across clinical and non-clinical products and services to reduce variation and improve cost efficiency.
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and develop internal policies for procurement and contracting.
Lead digital transformation by implementing and maintaining procurement and contracting technologies, automation and analytics tools, and process improvements in collaboration with IT, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Supply Chain Operations and other departments.
Establish and maintain supplier performance governance through KPIs, scorecards, and compliance audits to ensure accountability and service excellence.
Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across all spend categories, leveraging GPO partnerships and direct negotiations to optimize cost and quality. Oversee strategic contract negotiations for products/services.
Conduct market intelligence and benchmarking to anticipate pricing trends, supply chain risks, and emerging technologies.
Lead and develop a high-performing team, promoting innovation, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes in cost savings and quality.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field or
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
Master's in Healthcare Administraion, Business Administration or related field. or
Juris Doctorate (JD)
4-6 years Experience in negotiations, contracting, sourcing, vendor management.
10+ years Experience in leadership.
